The whole #JohnMastodon thing has been misunderstood. What actually happened was that a parasite was discovered in an actual mastodon corpse in melting permafrost. It can take on different forms and, believing Twitter was the dominant life-form on Earth, created its own version. It picked a random name ‘John Mastodon’, because it thought Twitter was controlled by its own parasite, called #ElonMusk.
