On July 6th I emailed my city council member and the member for another ward about a problematic intersection. July 27th, I received an email from the traffic assessment specialist about the changes that would be made to the intersection.

I #Run #OttBike #OttWalk for fun and to get where I'm going. The number of times I've had close calls with #OttTraffic distracted drivers is ridiculous.

Today, someone was chatting on their phone, backing out of a daycare parking lot, over the sidewalk and onto the road. They were chatting on the phone and of course, too busy to see me on the sidewalk. Classic #Ottawa driver!

An analysis of Sweden’s snow clearance practices showed that it disadvantaged women, who were more likely to walk, while employment districts where men predominantly worked were more likely to have streets plowed first. Three times as many people are injured while walking in icy conditions in Sweden than while driving. And the cost of those injuries far exceeds the cost of snow clearance.

So now they plow pedestrian paths first!

This intersection is awful. Drivers do not check for people using the crosswalk. This is part of my regular running route and I have experienced near misses many times. The scary part is the pedestrian that died a few weeks ago got hit on another intersection that drivers don't look for pedestrians on.
