@FediFollows @owncast Does #OwnCast come with its own broadcast software?

#owncast seems conceptually neat, but wouldnt it cost (most) creators more to run than they could realistically earn from it?

A number of people have asked recently if there is livestreaming on the Fediverse.

Yes, there is!

The Fediverse has a dedicated livestreaming platform called @owncast. You can follow #OwnCast accounts from Mastodon etc and you will see posts from the accounts in your timeline when they start streaming.

Owncast has a built-in Twitch-style chat system which you can use either anonymously without logging in, or with an account from Mastodon etc.

Because it's part of the Fediverse, you can follow OwnCast accounts from Mastodon etc, and when they go live you will see a post in your timeline to let you know.

I know we don't like Twitch. Ssssh! We don't! We prefer #Owncast!

But what if you wanted a nice theme for the next version of Owncast, that kinda reminds you of Twitch?

Let me stress here that it is for the *NEXT* release of Owncast, 0.1.1.

But also, the default look of Owncast is rather cool.

There is a streaming service on the #fediverse called #owncast. And there is a really cool 24/7 Livestream playing electronic/synth/ambient and even #vaporwave, called V O I D. Really worth checking out. Great content to tune out to.

Any suggestions for a shared community calendar? It’s for sharing our #owncast server so would have to be easily editable by multiple people.

I feel that this all will spawn a movement of people moving to alternative services which aren't controlled by these companies. A movement of people promoting the use of #FOSS software made by people which actually care.

I feel that the events which are currently happening could change big parts of the internet for the better and long-term.

And sincerely I hope that projects like #PeerTube, #OwnCast, #Kbin and other FOSS fediverse projects become more polished and widespread.
