I monitor for super low tides to uncover #oysters at #WestHarlemPiers, but the flip side of super low tides are #kingTides and flooding. They are possible late Saturday and early Sunday.

@bsmall2 @marzours I don't know about tires cleaning rivers but I found an old tire that had been removed from the #HudsonRiver with #oysters and #ribbedMussels growing on it contrary to the dogma of what these critters attach to. Researchers are trying to revive Europe’s native oyster, that over the last century has become almost extinct.

The European flat oyster used to be everywhere. Until the middle of the 20th century, Ostrea edulis was fished, farmed and eaten from the North Sea to the Adriatic, from Norway to Croatia.

Overfishing and the arrival of the two parasites Marteilia and Bonamia in the 1970s and '80s, decimated the populations.
