I'm browsing the archives of #PCST2021 #SCICOMM conference to catch up the sessions I missed, and I found this interesting work of Irene Broer about SCIENCE MEDIA CENTERS, which can "translate" the language of science to the language of journalism. The SMC of Germany has a team of 7 editors, defining strategic criteria for content production that is not left to the individual initiative of "celebrity scientists", but comes from a coordinated effort of experts in scicomm.
The poster I brought with prof. David Domingo to #PCST2021 (trying to understand factors promoting and jeopardizing #Scicomm, before and after #Covid-19 crisis) was presented on #ULB faculty website.

At #PCST2021 Emily Dawson explains the "double deficit": The excluded blamed for the exclusion of their communities from scientific discourse. Institution, practictioners and policymakers should take their responsibilities for the INCLUSION of the audience in #scicomm activities.
Today at #PCST2021 Nancy Longnecker presented her research work about #scicomm practice in traditional cultures and bicultural knowledge communication, explaining that "Maori have always been scientists", adopting a scientific approach in their knowledge building, with some enriching differences that added the values of their traditional culture to the prnciples of western science. Seeing the links between a native cultural tradition and epistemic tools of science was really interesting.
The use of comics in #scicomm is one of the best "power tools" presented at #pcst2021 to make more enjoyable and engaging those places where people meets science.

Day 2 of #PCST2021 : mindblowing presentations on "Participatory science communication and citizen science". Martin Bergman explained how facilitators can help researchers do better #citizenscience, Alice Motion talked about #scicomm applied to open source drug discovery (opensourcemalaria.org), Isabel Mendoza described 2 years of research to collect science beliefs from 500 people in 5 EU countries, Chi-I Lin used "campus farming" for the transformation of community agri-food conceptions.

Day 1 of #PCST2021 - a great session of visual presentations on the topic. Extreme summary: #scicomm activities using design methodologies and practices, experiences mixing art & science, digital scanning of antiques and artifacts in museums, art & science learning spaces, artistic visualization of scientific research, art+science+nature, scientific displays in national art festivals, live performances to visualize quantum physics. Inspiring works, great food for thought!
