@baslow “but also to mandate #PaidSickDays for the workers . . . amendment [] would guarantee seven paid sick days for #RailWorkers #railstrike https://amp.theguardian.com/us-news/2022/nov/30/us-rail-strike-congress-house-senate-union-sick-leave

We need a general strike.

BREAKING: #ONpoli gov't just voted against #PaidSickDays for the 28th time. We can't understand why @Fordnation@twitter.com and @MonteMcNaughton@twitter.com refuse to implement a basic public health protection that would reduce illness, save lives, and relieve the crisis in healthcare. #Justice4Workers

BREAKING: @fordnation@twitter.com & all of his MPPs have once again voted against giving all workers 10 permanent #PaidSickDays.
It's the 28th time they've denied workers legislated Paid Sick Days.
This isn’t a government working for workers.
This is a government working against workers.
This week both Premier King’s PC MLAs and the Third Party Liberal MLAs joined together in show of solidarity to deny Island workers any #PaidSickDays. Their vision for #PEI is job jeopardy, abandoned Islanders & sick workplaces. 3/22 #peipoli (https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/prince-edward-island/pei-paid-sick-leave-bill-voted-down-1.6661265)

Sick days save lives and livelihoods. Doug Ford should absolutely legislate 10 paid sick days.
It's common sense policy that actually help improve productivity and stave off labour shortages to not spread illness in the workplace... #PaidSickDays #onpoli

As MLAs, it’s our job to do everything we can to ensure all Islanders can live and work with health and dignity. We will continue to fight and advocate for workers, something the vote on #PaidSickDays show is needed more than ever. Thank you to Green MLA Trish Altass for sponsoring and defending this bill. #peipoli 7/7
We feel for the tens of thousands of #PEI workers who will be left behind because of the Liberals and PCs stood against giving them #PaidSickDays. We appreciate all the support we received from those same workers, as well as community organizations committed to the betterment of people and our economy. #peipoli 6/7
In the end, no level of evidence would have been sufficient to convince the Liberals or PCs that #PaidSickDays are good policy. Ultimately, these are parties with neither an interest nor a record of standing up for workers. #peipoli 5/7
At the individual level, we do not believe businesses are best suited to make health decisions about individual workers. Workers know their health best, and they should be legally supported to take any steps needed to better their health and protect others. #peipoli #PaidSickDays 4/7
Government plans to extend its Special Leave Fund until March, but that program does not provide job protection. In fact, workers are not entitled to #PaidSickDays through that program; it is their employer who must apply and ultimately decides whether they can miss work. #peipoli 3/7
We proposed 10 #PaidSickDays because it reflects the level of work absences due to illness in the province of Prince Edward Island, as well as what workers have told us. Although some members disagreed with 10 days, they did not offer a number of their own - except zero. #peipoli 2/7
We're disappointed that both the PCs and Liberals unanimously voted against 10 #PaidSickDays (Premier Dennis King skipped the vote). Despite the suggestion that “no one is opposed to paid sick leave”, it was pretty clear today that the PCs and Liberals are opposed to paid sick leave. #peipoli 1/7
We will be debating #PaidSickDays in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island again today at 4 pm. You can tune in live here: https://www.assembly.pe.ca/watch-live #peipoli
#PaidSickDays is good policy. It seems the government of Prince Edward Island has fallen for some myths about the value of giving Island workers paid sick days. Here’s a video with some facts. #peipoli
