Cell block behind the old Partick Police Station on Gullane Street in Glasgow. The station itself opened in the 1850s and finally closed in the 1990s. It also served as Maryhill Police Station in the original series of the police drama Taggart.

Love this enamel and metal thistle on the door of an old bank on Dumbarton Road in the Partick area of Glasgow. Randomly stumbling across glorious little details like this is one of the main reasons I love living in Glasgow.

I posted a couple of these little art works a couple of days ago, and now I've tracked down a couple more, as well as their origin.
They are part of a sound walk through Partick and Kelvindale created by Tricky Hat Productions in August 2021 called Round Our Place. You can find out more about it here (including a map of the entire walk and the locations of all eight plaques): https://trickyhat.com/portfolios/creative-communities-2022/

I spotted these relief sculptures over the entrances to numbers 1 and 3 Elie Street in the Partick area of Glasgow. It's great to see such adornments on relatively new tenement buildings. Modern buildings need more little details like this.

One of the distinctive and iconic corn sheaf finials on the gable ends of the Bishop Mills on Old Dumbarton Road in the Partick area of Glasgow. It was built for William Wilson, a miller and grain merchant in 1839 on the site of the much older medieval Mill of Partick.

The dome and finial of Partick Cross Mansions in Glasgow.
Partick has a great collection of traditional red and blonde sandstone tenements that are always well worth checking out. Just remember to look up to see their full beauty.

Red sandstone tenement, Dumbarton Road, Glasgow.
I love the near symmetry of this building, along with the large windows.
It's also notable that rather than hide the chimney flues behind false windows (as was done in older Glasgow tenements), they've been made into a key design feature of its aesthetic.

I've walked along Gardner Street in Partick many times over the years, but only noticed these sculptures below the oriel windows on the tenements for the first time today. They're a great design element, and I wonder how many other tenements across Glasgow have them.

The leaning tower of Partick. Partick Burgh Hall in Glasgow was designed by William Leiper and were built in 1872. It's topped by this slim and elegant bell tower, which, over the years, has developed a notable slant.

One of the many tenement turrets in Glasgow. This one is on Dumbarton Road in Glasgow. These turrets are one of the architectural features that give Glasgow its very distinctive look.

In the mid-1800s, hoses made from strips of leather were replaced by ones woven from flax. The first of these were produced in Scotland in 1850 and although they were much lighter in weight, they had to be dried after each use to stop them rotting. This was done by hanging them vertically in hose-drying towers like this one.

If you've ever driven along the Clydeside Expressway in Glasgow, you'll have seen this tower near the Thornwood Roundabout. It's part of the old Partick Fire Station on Beith Street, and it was originally built as a hose-drying tower.

Functional, but beautifully tiled, arched doorway in the old Partick Fire Station on Beith Street, Glasgow.
I love the fact that this feature was kept, unaltered, when this building was turned into residential flats.

Entrance to the old Partick Fire Station on Beith Street. It was opened in 1907, when fire engines in Glasgow were still pulled by teams of horses, and this fire station included stabling for eight of them.
The building was designed by James Miller in the Edwardian Queen Anne Revival style.
