Is there a thing such as SphagnumTuesday? Here's the full colour range from very green (probably S. fallax) to very red (probably S. capillifolium). Thriving in Cairngorms National Park hills #mossmatters #bryophytes #peatbogs #peatmoss #mosses @Haggewoods @botany_beck @whitmuir1

The flows are an amazing landscape .. it's very hard to describe the feeling of their vast expanse .. I remember seeing a twister travel across them one autumn #FlowCountry #Peat #WorldHeritageSite #Scotland #Landscape #PeatBogs

Good morning! #Peatbogs are perhaps my favourite ecosystems. Sphagnum moss ranges many colours: green, light or deep, red, or gold, as seen here. It traps carbon, keeps humidity in summer, and is home to a wonderful range of species. #Drosera rotundifolia, here, always amazes me from its sheer simple beauty. They’re so small! This was shot on the Isle of Harris and Lewis in the Hebrides in the summer of 2018. #Photography #NaturePhotography #MacroPhotography #Botany #Biodiversity #SavageGarden

Interesting #longread on the restoration of peat bogs in Scotland (with a section on Indonesia), which help to absorb carbon.
"Globally, peatlands hold more than twice as much carbon as the world’s forests do, according to the United Nations Environment Programme."
