Spent yesterday in Georgetown’s oldest quarter, elevated to a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. It has a genuine oriental feel & has since been well preserved.
Many of the merchant houses & palaces have been renovated, lots of art galleries has opened as well as cafes, bars, restaurants & hotels. The jetties is something that has to be on the list to visit. A mix of local residents & small stalls out on the water. Perfect location for sunset lovers.

A bus stop in Penang, Malaysia, shaped like a street car / tram, Chowrasta Market.
Interestingly, Chowrasta is also the name of a public square in Darjeeling, West Bengal. For many years during colonial rule, Penang and Calcutta had strong ties as the most important administrative centres of the British empire in the east. So there's a lot of influence between both places.

From the statue I walked further up to see a wooden gate that leads to the temple. No entry, says the sign. Wise. The wooden steps look unsafe. The temple is presumably at the top of this hill.

Kek Lok Si temple at Air Itam, #Penang. I forgot how big they looked like from the town.
A must-see in Penang, do be aware that of all the towns in Penang this is the place I feel like target practice for motorcyclists.
Try the Penang laksa here. Buy the Chinese biscuits. And try to survive the traffic.
