Long distance footpaths aren't what they used to be. I'd walked all of "Pennine Way" before 10am this morning 😂 - I was expecting more than a short run of bungalows tbh!
And then (because I had 100 more urgent things to research) I went looking and found that the Pennine Way footpath was named in 1965, and the short road in Barnsley, with other hill named roads nearby, seems to be on the 1955-61 OS map. So I have walked the original Pennine Way I guess!

I did stage 3 of my #pennineway rewalk today - from Standedge to Hebden Bridge. It's a somewhat disappointing section, with no epic hills, but some good views of Manchester. The reservoirs are tiresome, but the walk to Stoodley Pike redeems it a little at the end.
Trying to make some plans for #hiking the #pennineway in sections this year, and it looks like the route is basically broken for non-camping, due to a lack of accommodation in Crowden or Marsdale. This seems ridiculous though...
I've been boosting #SpineRace recently because I'm fascinated that a gruelling 264 mile race up the #PennineWay exists and I had no idea until this year.
The race began in 2012 according to this Wikipedia entry, when only three people finished...
Walkers are Welcome - Hebden Bridge and Mytholmroyd
The towns nestle into the hillsides surrounded by beautiful countryside. They are great walkers towns with many footpaths, and bridleways to explore.
The moors are high above us and add a stark beauty to the landscape. Calderdale has the highest number of footpaths in the whole of England, well maintained and waymarked by active volunteers.

Will follow up my introduction with more over the next couple days. Here, a photo I took on holiday in May 2019, along the #PennineWay (somewhere between Marsden and Standedge). Didn't see anyone else for about two hours -- so wonderfully peaceful!
