The Pine Marten, Martes americana, is a 2 foot long weasel that hasn't been seen in #PA #Pennsylvnia (though they do live elsewhere) since the 1920s, chiefly because of deforestation.
Now, research and #restoration efforts are signaling the Pennsylvania Game commission to reintroduce them, with the first releases five years from now in a 10-year plan.
Pine martens in general are in a least concern in terms of #conservation status, though the Newfoundland subspecies (M. a. atrata) is threatened, and lives in the Columbian Mountains and some Alaskan islands.
