I have a few $'s squirreled away but it never would have been enought to support me in retirement which, for me, started 16 years ago.

What saved me was getting a defined benefit pension thru The City and CalPers.

I once estimated that I would have had to have "saved" at least $2M in order to receive my monthly pension benefit w/o dipping into the principle.

Not to many working people have that kind of $ stashed away.
