Among the many fantastic creatures of the Permian were our own cousins, the synapsids, like these lovey-dovey Moschops. As you can see, this picture and the previous one are done in coloured pencils instead of watercolour, because they're the oldest images I'm including in this post. I only very rarely used watercolours before this year. I think it means I should do some more Permian art, it's such a cool and underexposed period.

random thought about Permian and Triassic climates: To me, the huge ocean Panthalassa seems like a good recipe for huge atmospheric rivers: it was huge, it had lots and lots of warm water, and in warm climate the air could take up a huge amount of water. (This is how I imagine the Carnian pluvials, for example.)
An article about modern atmospheric rivers, for reference:

This one's not even in the shops yet but here's the Dinosaur Toy Blog's big reveal and detailed review of Safari Ltd's new-for-2023 Estemmenosuchus: https://dinotoyblog.com/estemmenosuchus-wild-safari-by-safari-ltd/
"...we have skin impressions of Estemmenosuchus. They seem to show that the animal had smooth skin, enhancing the hippo-like appearance of Estemmenosuchus"

A first person view of petting a #dimetrodon like the big pupper it is.
This one popped into my head fully-formed when I saw a Dimetrodon skull at the Paris natural history museum. It looked so friendly and loveable, and in that moment I could easily imagine it laying its head in my lap to ask for pets.
If you enjoy my art, consider leaving a tip at https://ko-fi.com/vickysaurus/ . Thanks!

March: #Moschops in love. Two female Moschops share a moment of affection by the shore. These friend-shaped #synapsids are thought to be semi-aquatic, and I tried to make them look the part. #paleoart #myArt #permian #therapsid

#Diplocaulus was a lepospondyl 'amphibian' which survived from the Late #Carboniferous to the Late #Permian, roughly 300 - 250 MYA. This beautiful creature grew up to about 1 m long, and had a bizarre boomerang shaped skull. #palaeoart

Here’s an old school project I did back in early 2020. We had to make diagrams of a topic of our choice and I chose the #Permian. I wanted to do something outside of the #Mesozoic and #dinosaurs. Some info may be wrong or outdated and my #drawings aren’t spectacular but I like to think I still did a pretty good job and I’m proud of this #art project.
