I've been enjoying the talks at HOPV23 lots! Most interesting so far is probably the talk on cheaper alternatives for PEDOT given how pricey it is. Interesting to see what is possible without lead, as well as learning why lead is so important in the first place, too!

I'm going to be at HOPV23 in London tomorrow until Wednesday morning.
Do pop-by our stall in the MacMillan hall if you'd like to chat about Chemical Science or publishing with the Royal Society of Chemistry!

Open PhD positions! You will be part of our endeavor to develope next generation #perovskite #photovoltaics and perovskite-based tandem photovoltaics. We are looking for excellent candidates with a strong personal drive for scientific research and international collaboration.

Every time there's a discussion of #solar or #wind for power generation, some right-wing clever-clogs starts doing a little urgent dance, waving his (inevitably, his) hand around to be called on so he can look down on us all disappointedly and declare:
"Didn't you know that sometimes it's DARK?"
This absurd corner-case whataboutism is just so tiring, because it presumes we're all idiots who hadn't heard about "the night" before.
#Photovoltaics leapt forward so astonishingly far in the past couple decades, and solar panels in London on a cloudy day make more energy now than 1980s panels did at noon in San Diego. And hey smart guy, London has those 20-hours-of-daylight summer days, during which everyone's started needing air conditioners thanks to your precious oil.
I'm sure solar and wind are utterly useless in Darklandia, Principality of Becalmed Air. Thanks for the shout. Where does that leave us in terms of policy decisions?
We should be building out solar and wind as much as possible, and shrinking the role of fossil fuels to also-rans in little corner cases like the ones you insist on bringing up all the time.
But stop telling us about nighttime. We all learned about that when we were two years old, and it doesn't make you look clever.
Zero rate VAT on domestic solar photovoltaic installations in Germany and other measures to simplify adoption. Something Ireland could copy?

We also see for Europe, that #Photovoltaics and #WindEnergy complement each other well over the course of the year.
Based on such datasets, we assessed "balancing effects and shortfall risks of #Photovoltaics and #WindEnergy in Germany and Europe":
Following #ScienceMastodon etiquette, a brief #introduction.
I am responsible for two #EXAFS stations at the #synchrotron #BESSY II operated by the #Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin.
The experiments I supervise are in #energy-materials. These include #battery #materials and materials studied in fundamental research at #photovoltaics.
I am interested in research on static #crystal structures and the dynamic behavior of these structures.
