Our 1st 🦣 toot from South Island! Grateful ferry did sail yesterday, but the 4h of delay meant arrival tired at DOC camp, in dark. Wind gusts of ~60kph rocked our van for a 3rd consecutive night, & more forecast. A review of options at Waikawa foreshore: we bailed on #Picton & drove 2h to Cable Bay, nr. #Nelson, site of 1st NZ-AU overseas cable (1876).

Looking at a month wait until sailings aren’t sold out (even early AM ones) for both Interislander & Bluebridge. That’s certainly unexpected and somewhat counter to “spontaneous by design” #vanlife! Are North Islanders mass migrating south to escape recent bad weather? Is getting off South Island just as difficult? Perhaps the issue is our being >7m long? 🤷♂️
