#Piha A helicopter has been charted to help deliver supplies to the region's coastal communities cut off by road. Food & welfare supplies were delivered to Karekare community this arvo Response teams have also been dropped into the area to do welfare checks.

#Karekare residents who were evacuated asked not to return home until they have been given the all clear.

Slips & flooding appear to have cut Piha off. Some people have evacuated their homes already.

If you need to evacuate, welfare centres have been set up at the Piha RSA and the surf club.

Piha, on the West Coast of the Auckland Region, is one of my all-time favourite places to visit and photograph both in the day-time or for my Astrophotography. Testing out some new equipment, I went to Piha ealy on Saturday and snapped the surf coming in. I absolutely love the feathered surf coming in.

Due to the Hunga-Tonga-Hunga-Ha'apai eruption at the beginning of the year, we have been seeing some spectacular sunsets this spring here in New Zealand. This was a test shot taken at Piha, just outside Auckland New Zealand. The clouds decided not to play nice for some Milky Way photos, but I really enjoyed this particular shot and the colours of the sky.

Went for another walk out near #Piha today. This time we went up to the lookout then followed the track around past some smaller bays and back up to the road.
We couldn't believe the number of people out surfing this morning (surely it's too cold still?!).
Saw some interesting looking trees that have obviously copped a lot of wind and grown into strange shapes.

A #fungi photo for your Friday. This is a Coltricia sp. At first glance I thought it was dead but a closer look made me realise it wasn't. These #mushroom have pores rather than gills underneath. Unfortunately I didn't think to take a photo of that at the time. The top had a velvety feel.

Visited Kitekite falls again today. Was much nicer without the summer crowds on the track. The falls are quite deceptive from below as you only see the full height from a distance.
