Setting up #PikaBackup on my little #GPD #WinMax2, which I've been using as my daily driver the past few days as an experiment.

Pika has added some nice convenient options since the last time I set up my main machine's backup with it; several checkboxes to exclude some common data you might not want to back up. Very nice!

I still add a few more exclusions, namely from messy apps that don't follow XDG standards well enough. I'm looking at you, #Firefox and #VSCode.

@my_actual_brain have you tried #PikaBackup ? It uses #BorgBackup and has a much better ui than vorta.

@benjaminhollon I've been meaning to take a look at #BorgBackup, potentially with #PikaBackup for my workstation. Doesn't help for servers, but it seems like a really nifty setup.

However it seems like there's a bit of a catch with S3 storage, which is what I was posting about earlier rather than those providers' native backup solutions. I'll need to learn a bit more about "borg repos" to understand.

Noch eine abendliche Empfehlung zum #ILoveFS-Tag an alle #Linux-Menschen: #BorgBackup dürfte einigen bereits bekannt sein, vorzüglich finde ich aber die darauf aufbauenden grafischen Lösungen #Vorta (Qt-basiert, viele Einstellungsmöglichkeiten) und #PikaBackup (GTK, sehr einfache und zugängliche Bedienung). Damit werden verschlüsselte, komprimierte und deduplizierte Backups zum Kinderspiel. Jeder Sicherungsstand lässt sich bei Bedarf entpacken oder direkt ins Dateisystem einhängen. Richtig feines Zeug!

Almost everything is encrypted. Nextcloud and my laptop are doing remote incremental encrypted backups, using borg.

#PikaBackup looks interesting - a little nice front-end to the Mighty Borg!

@EricZhang456 @distrotube snapshots and raid **are not backups** use something like #btrbk or #PikaBackup to copy to a separate disk.

@gnome new site https://apps.gnome.org is pretty cool. I've just found #PikaBackup (https://apps.gnome.org/app/org.gnome.World.PikaBackup/) and it's nice and simple. :)
