Pitivi Video Editor Adds Beat Detection, Object Tracking + More
A new development version of Pitivi video editor is out and it boasts some major new features. The GTK-based video editor is currently in the midst of a GTK4 port as part of this year’s Google Summer of Code but, happening alongside that work, is work on adding a slew of other features that would-be content creators will be keen to try. Following OpenShot’s lead, the Pitivi 2022.06 milestone introduces object tracking. I had a bit of a play with this prior to writing this article. To track and object you click “cover object” in the clip options panel then :sys_more_orange:

@KopfKrieg Für den Zweck habe ich mit #Pitivi angefangen. Das scheint hier ideal zu sein. Doch leider strotzt das nur so von Bugs bei einfachen Features. Deshalb bin ich auf #Kdenlive umgestiegen. Ich brauche zwar 95 Prozent der Features nicht, komme aber trotzdem gut zurecht und es ist deutlich zuverlässiger.
Productive Summer Planned for Pitivi Video Editor
Any list of Linux video editors would be incomplete if it didn’t include Pitivi. I have a real soft spot for this oft-overlooked GTK & GStreamer based non-linear video editor. It’s inherently stable, has a clean, ordered UI, and diligently focuses on ensuring the ‘basics’ of video editing (cutting, arranging, simple effects, simple transitions, etc) are catered for. As it’s GTK-based means Pitivi looks right at home on GNOME-based desktops. But soon it will look even nicer as a GTK4 port of Pitivi is getting underway as part of this year’s Google Summer of Code. Under the guidance of GNOME :sys_more_orange:

Sorry #Pitivi, I can not recommend you to people who look for a #video editing solution: https://karl-voit.at/2022/02/03/Pitivi

@linos None. I just started with video editing and #Pitivi was my first tool choice. Without those issues, the abstraction level and featureset would be a fit. I already switched to the most recent flatpak version which fixes some issues.
Maybe I'm going to try #Kdenlive next. I hope that I don't need to invest much effort to get to the status I've already reached with Pitivi.
After producing my third #video with #Pitivi, I probably need to look for an alternative. Too many small bugs are making my #videoediting experience miserable. 😒
Too bad that I've invested so much in this tool before finding out it doesn't work for me.
