New phone and new OS.
Purchased a Google Pixel 6a phone specifically to install GrapheneOS. The web installer/instructions for Linux (Debian) worked like a charm:

Got this #MiBand7 connected to #gadgetbridge running on my #grapheneOS #pixel6 last night. Extremely quick and painless process! Next step is to sync up the data to #InfluxDb to create a #Grafana dashboard for my healh stats! #selfhosted #wearables

I text a lot, so that was going to be a major problem. Fortunately the problem went away after I installed pending app updates. Phew, crisis averted.
