Yes, the character cap is an *instance*-specific configuration param of Mastodon. The default IS 500. Some config more.

However, Mastodon isn't the only "platform" on the #Fediverse that all speak the same #ActivityPub protocol. Platforms like #akkoma #Pleroma #misskey #calckey are all similar "microblog" like platforms, each with different default msg caps.

Further, platforms like #pixelfed #Peertube all speak it too.

@bflipp @alan @TheRatCantRead "you can use whatever app you want" may not be true. You can't use all #Mastodon clients to access #Calckey or #Pleroma for example. Servers often implement their own APIs on top of #ActivityPub, especially authentication. It would surprise me if #Meta allowed their users to login and post with third party apps.

Still, the rest of the #Fediverse doesn't need to care what permissions the #Threads app demands of their users.

@JasonEccles another example is #Pleroma which supports QuoteToots and other features that Mastodon refuses to support. If you use a Pleroma server you see the QT, but for Masto users it won't show up.

I’ve seen a lot of discussions on how quote-tooting would help artists, writers and creators to reach bigger audience bases and the lack of it makes it really difficult for them to switch from the bird site.
asfaik #akkoma (not sure about #pleroma here), #misskey and forks do have this feature (so do some #mastodon forks). That aside, perhaps we could try to, err dunno, make a habit of boosting AND posting with the link to the original, for posts we’d want to QT?

Ok, serious question in regards to the #Fediverse. Nearly every single #Pleroma instance I've ran across is home to nazis, trolls, and just generally unpleasant folks.

These instances are also usually just one single person who spam posts several times an hour, but again, almost always on Pleroma.

Why? What makes Pleroma such an appealing platform for racists and transphobes?

Is there an option somewhere that asks "do you respect other people" and if no it redirects you to Pleroma?

Choosing an #Fediverse instance means choosing a community, even if you're using the same project.

As you can see, I am #Mastodon user. I decided to choose mstdn.social, since it has a very nice community that I like. Just the ones like me, you know?

But there's lot of other fediprojects such as #Friendica, #Misskey, #Lemmy, #Pleroma (and the co-projects including!) and etc.

So, you can decide for yourself, what instance should you use.

Some projects has features that other don't.

Conclusion: Only flourishing, prospering, overfull, overjoyed life in pursuit of the Sophianic heights can make such beauty possible – the will to beauty/truth/justice, the will to meaning, that is, the will to ERECT a Pleroma in the Kenoma.

Mind is the hidden Mistress of our reality,

Aprés des semaines de gallère je n'ai jamais réussi à faire marcher. J'ai eu des problèmes incompréhensible.

Décision sage ce matin : je supprime ça sert à rien s'insiter. Cela me déprime, m'énerve et je crois que ça énerve tout le monde.

Repirer un grand coup, sortir dans la forêt et aprés on verra. Peut être que je vais réussir à faire quelque chose.
