This weeks is

Found in 1821, and named "near to" "lizard" by Henry De la Beche and William Conybeare. This is because it more reptile like than Ichthyosaurus, another marine reptile that had been found only a couple years earlier.

Plesiosaurus was a 3 meter long marine reptile from the Early Jurassic.

An almost complete fossil was later discovered by the legendary in 1823. This fossil is still on display in the Natural History Museum London.

I've despised Jurassic World and everything it stands for since seeing the first film in the cinema in 2015. I haven't given the franchise a penny of my money since... until now. 😩

The bastards have only gone and found my Achilles' heel – plesiosaur toys. Grrr.

Thanks to a surprise delivery from @dave_hone I now have a blue Toyway toy in addition to the green version I already had. This 1970s toy always reminded me of a specific illustration by paleoartist Neave Parker, which I suspect was the ‘inspiration’. The sculpt was originally released under the brand Dinocrats.
