In June, I spent a day in the "Weshoek", the coastal region at the border between France and Belgium. 🇧🇪 /🇨🇵
Dunes with a great plant diversity are located here. They are dominated by Ammophila arenaria (European beachgrass), a large grass #Poaceae.
Sand is a stressful substrate, especially concerning water supply. The leaves of this species are adapted to drought: they are folded to isolate the stomatas from ambiant air. This contributes to reduce water loss. Isn't it beautiful?
