Thanks! I'm in NYC, so those can work for me.
I've had Lauren Brown's "Grasses" a long time. She has a newer book out I should get.

This picture is ugly, but you can see the leaf encircling the stem. #Poaceae #PlantAnatomy
The whole leaf looks like that. It is circular, because it is a sheath around the stem (at least the lower part). #Poaceae #PlantAnatomy
This is an amazing hat, isn't it? It is made up of fibre cells, covering a head-shaped vascular bundle in a leaf of a velvet grass (Holcus lanatus, #Poaceae). #PlantAnatomy
This is a cross section in a ridged stem of a cockspur (Echinochloa crus-galli, #Poaceae). Look at the head-shaped vascular bundles, the chlorenchyma (in green) and the fibres bundles at the top of each ridge (in white). #PlantAnatomy
What is this wheel-like structure?
A cross section in a root from a cockspur (Echinochloacrus-galli, #Poaceae), a common grass here in Belgium! #PlantAnatomy
In June, I spent a day in the "Weshoek", the coastal region at the border between France and Belgium. 🇧🇪 /🇨🇵
Dunes with a great plant diversity are located here. They are dominated by Ammophila arenaria (European beachgrass), a large grass #Poaceae.
Sand is a stressful substrate, especially concerning water supply. The leaves of this species are adapted to drought: they are folded to isolate the stomatas from ambiant air. This contributes to reduce water loss. Isn't it beautiful?
Hello! I'm a naturalist in TX, and I spend my free time obsessing over native grasses, constantly learning as I go and teaching others who are curious. Nonzero chance that I have a chigger on me at any time. #introduction #naturalist #botany #poaceae
