He had previously described her hair color as "raven-black", so obviously the "gold" definition doesn't fit here. But how did this word come to mean both blueish purple in non-hair contexts and gold in hair contexts??

2/3 of those bots passed my own private litmus test (asking for the Austrian record soccer champion, with "Rapid Wien" being the correct answer and "Red Bull Salzburg" the wrong one).
#Sage (obviously a clone of #ChatGPT) and #Claude got it right, just #Dragonfly didn't.

Finally reading this so important E. A. #Poe tale “The purloined letter” [1846]. Crucial to #Lacan and his eponymous seminar.
Never fully read it because I assumed I knew the story from the multiple short summaries including in papers and books about Lacan.

"Quoth the raven," writes #Poe. Whence "quoth"?
"Quoth" just means "said." It's the Old #English past tense of QUETHE, "to say" — a verb that survives (barely) in the one modern form, and appears, per the #OED, always before the subject. Nowadays it is primarily used of ravens.
It is unrelated to "quote," from #Latin QUOTARE, in turn from QUOT ("how many"), originally meaning "mark with numbers."
