Eager to Try Pop!_OS 22.10? Well, You Can’t…
Don’t hate me but I’ve some bad (if not entirely unsurprising) news for the Pop!_OS fans who plan to pounce on the presumed-to-be upcoming 22.10 release: you can’t. Before anyone groan: no, I’m not about to deliver a trite “…cOz vAnILLa ‘bUnTu is beTtEr” punchline. Sadly, Pop!_OS 22.10 is not going to be released this autumn — heck, it’s not even in development. System76’s software engineers want to take the time and effort prepping the next release would take and instead plough it in constructing their home-grown, Rust-based COSMIC desktop environment. System76’s Micheal Murphy confirmed the news in a Reddit :sys_more_orange:

HP Team Up With System76 for New Linux Laptop
HP is launching a Linux laptop pre-loaded with Pop!_OS, the Ubuntu-based distro created by System76. The collaboration, which was quietly revealed by System76 CEO Carl Richell on Twitter, is a pretty major one. It is the first time System76 has partnered with another computer company to ship their OS. It’s also the first time (to my knowledge) that a HP Linux laptop will ship with something other than vanilla Ubuntu. Specs for the 14-inch HP Dev One seem pretty sweet, too. How to Upgrade to Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS
A new version of Pop!_OS is out and it packs some delectable goodies like scheduled updates, better multi-monitor workspace switching, and a tweak that ensures the app or game in focus gets the best performance possible. But you don’t need to download a new .iso and plunge headfirst into a fresh install. You can upgrade to Pop OS 22.04 from 21.10. And in this post I walk you (well, me) through the process… Upgrading to Pop!_OS 22.04 First things first: before you go any further you should backup any important files, settings, dot files, and so on. While the upgrade :sys_more_orange:

These Mockups of System76’s Cosmic Desktop Leave Me Very Excited
If last weeks sneak peek at real-world progress on System76’s new Rust-based Cosmic desktop experience left you a tiny bit excitable, just wait until you see what they’ve got planned. Pop!_OS code explorer Eduardo Flores has shared a System76 Figma design document that gives us a much better look at what’s in store for this upstart DE. And though hate to be a tease: it looks amazing. I’ve always been a fan of desktop applets, indicators, menu bar items, whatever you want to call then. Vanilla GNOME is pretty averse to them and its Status Menu ‘groups’ several functions into :sys_more_orange:

Pop!_OS is Now Available for the Raspberry Pi 4
Pop!_OS is now available for the Raspberry Pi. The sweetly-named Pop!_Pi is available to download as a ‘tech preview’ alongside the new Pop!_OS 21.10 release from System76. Now, there are a few caveats. While Pop!_Pi is the first version of Pop!_OS to be available for Raspberry Pi devices it doesn’t support all Raspberry Pi Models. The Pop!_Pi tech preview caters to the ‘desktop class’ Raspberry Pi 4 board (which regular Ubuntu also supports). If you use Linux (whatever flavour) you’ll have no doubt heard of the Raspberry Pi even if you haven’t ever used one. The line of cheap mini-computers :sys_more_orange:

Pop!_OS 21.10 Released with New App Library Feature + More
System76 have slipped in to their Santa suits to deliver Linux users an early festive treat: Pop!_OS 21.10. Yes, the latest version of their Ubuntu-based Linux distro is available to download. It includes a new Linux kernel, the bulk of GNOME 40, a new App Library feature (more on that in a mo) and refinements to its (handy) OS restore options. Notwithstanding a recent red-faced encounter with a tech YouTuber, Pop!_OS has proven a popular choice with Linux gamers since launching in 2017. Part of the reason is that this distro offers a newer Linux kernel and more recent graphics :sys_more_orange:
