Well the Presonus Quantum 4848 is removed from the rack and awaiting its final disconnection from my system. The Apogee Symphony arrived at the L&M Ontario depot from California a couple of days ago, so it should be here soon. Getting excited now.

The concept of not turning off the equipment in the studio in order to maintain the Presonus Quantum 4848 audio interface in a working state is now over. The BC Hydro bill came in yesterday & it’s ****ing outrageous. Powered down last night, and lo & behold, the Quantum isn’t working when I started up today. Fortunately the Apogee Symphony has just shipped from Ontario.

The ongoing Quantum saga. Powered up this morning and the software (Universal Control) is functioning properly. It sees the interface & all the metering is working properly. But now the interface isn’t working properly, there’s no signal getting to the mixer. I’m not going to mince words here, this thing is a piece of s*%t. Definitely heading into Long & McQuade today and ordering the Apogee Symphony.

On a positive note, today my new Hosa DB25 cable snakes arrived. Connected them to inputs & outputs 25 to 32 on the Quantum and they’re all working! Yay! So I now have a functioning 32 channel recording studio. Will try to get to Long & McQuade tomorrow and order the Apogee Symphony. And buy the Fender Stratocaster.

Now firmly convinced that this Persons Quantum 4848 is a total waste of money. The error occurring now is that their Universal Control software doesn't recognize the device. And yet it's working just fine - outputs are all functioning normally, inputs are all functioning normally. And why does it show up in the Universal Control interface if there's an issue??? Seriously, getting the Apogee interface is now a top priority for me.

Well, go figure. I’m now totally perplexed. Powered the system up this morning, and it works. Nothing different from yesterday when it wasn’t working, just an 18 hour power down.

So what’s my take away here? Firstly, I’ve lost all faith in the Presonus interface. Secondly, I’ve bought myself some extra time to explore alternatives, but an alternative will have to be found. Thirdly, I need to make hay while the sun is shining.

Frustrated beyond belief right now. When I shut down the studio last night everything was working, and I had everything set to start recording this morning. Power up this morning and … nothing. Figured pretty quickly it was an output issue with the Presonus Quantum 4848. Pulled it all apart and tested every cable. Cables are fine. Inputs on the Quantum working. Outputs say they work but nothing at the mixer. What a waste of time & money. Argh!!!

Took 4 weeks but the studio is finally back up & running. Sadly when the monitors crashed onto the mixer & buckled the rack units in the desk it damaged 2 of the DB-25 cables connected to the Presonus Quantum 4848 interface. So until I can replace the cables I'm "limited" to 24 tracks in & out. I'm really excited to have things running again.

Was considering buying a Macbook Air or Pro for audio production but man everything is soldered on the boards. Would rather save 1 to 2k dollars and get a @frameworkcomputer and use the memory and ssd I already own. I've also experienced ssd drive failures so I won't buy another computer without replaceable storage.
