@citizensclimate carbon fee & dividend #PriceOnPollution would have been the law of the land had just a few more Americans voted in 2016.

We were so close to getting it passed then, but after Trump took office the Republicans all rallied around his policies and since the fossil fuel industry was so involved with getting him elected there was just no way.

No one solution will solve an issue as huge as weaning ourselves off of fossil fuels obviously.

I mention a #PriceOnPollution mainly because there is an army of citizen lobbyists with our country's largest organization focused on #GlobalWarming, @citizensclimate, that can be mobilized if a coalition of congresspeople can help initiate legislation they'll get behind.

We've been pushing for similar in the U.S. for over a decade. The Canadian carbon tax and dividend was influenced and assisted with the largest nonprofit #ClimateAction group in the U.S. @citizensclimate

Hopefully we'll get a #PriceOnPollution with a carbon fee & dividend system soon, but our legislature's a mess right now so idk.

Do you know how a ton of emissions it is up to in Canada now or does yours not rise every year?

@citizensclimate is the largest #CliimateAction volunteer organization in the USA and its entire focus is on to get Congress to put a #PriceOnPollution like you're hoping for btw.

When I still worked with @citizensclimate I would fly out to D.C. working to lobby for a #PriceOnPollution which is part of the concept of someone's #CarbonShadow which is why it's beyond unhelpful to try to undermine someone like Kerry because he flies to international meetings and such. I also flew home to see my mother when she told me she was dying from cancer to help out and be a good son even though she'd never been a good mom.

I mainly just want people to think about it.

Yes, which is why I worked with @citizensclimate for so long trying to get our congress to put a #PriceOnPollution which would have helped to drive the globe towards decarbonization faster.

Hopefully, we can get that done after the 2024 elections, but even more than that, I'm just hoping that I'll have convinced more Americans to decarbonize before the next election.

This was seven years ago today when we once again met with his staff, but he was a no-show chickenshit coward.

I succeeded once at one of his public events to get him on the record supporting a #PriceOnPollution though for what it was worth.

Maybe it didn't work to get a law passed, but at least I fucking tried.

My cloud storage just reminded me that today's the anniversary of when I finally met @MichaelEMann irl instead of just on Twitter. This was 2016 prior to lobbying our Congress for a #PriceOnPollution with @citizensclimate in D.C.

Politicians must often frame their answers in the politically most favorable format possible, but he suffered from having a real shortage of political capital in our last because there was so much criticism of him from the left side of the aisle so I don't blame him for sticking to that campaign promise considering what all he was able to accomplish.

@tagomago there are much more insidious distractions than a #PriceOnPollution imho, but trust me that after trying to get #ClimateAction for decades I am used to my suggestions being dismissed by people with a "better" plan. All I know is we need major changes fast and I don't see these plans being implemented nor advocated for enough.
