#OTD John Stevens Henslow, British #Priest, #Botanist, & #Professor, is born.
A mentor to #Darwin, John recommended Darwin for the expedition on the HMS Beagle & gave him a #Book for the journey: "Humboldt's Narrative," which he inscribed:
"J. S. #Henslow to his friend C. Darwin on his departure from England upon a voyage around the world. September 21st, 1831."
Darwin treasured this gift above all others. After his death, the book was gifted to the #Cambridge #Library.

He named over 100 #Plants, including the #Cosmos - from a Greek word meaning #Order & #Harmony - a nod to the perfect #Petals of the #Flower.
Antonio also named the #Dahlia after the botanist #AndrewDahl.

53 followers · 43 posts · Server mindly.socialOnce when I saw #thenational they sent the lead singer way out into the crowd with a microphone cable that was at least 150yds long, and I realized this may have been easier/cheaper with a wireless mic; so it must have been a conscious choice to use that long chord, and it made me think as a #GeriatricMillennial #priest I am a bridge to a bygone time because I often consciously value and choose reliable chorded connections and because I favor incarnate bonds over spiritual ones. #sacrament
