The thing is, by freeing people from jail, you are not only doing ethically the right thing, but also saving a lot of money for the stupid administration.
In Germany, for example, when you are too poor to pay your fine, you might end up in jail. This results every year in ten thousands of jailed people for traveling without a ticket in public transport (jail looms after the third time they catch you). Obviously this hits the poor most (87 % are unemployed).
Every day in jail costs the state around 200 € per person.
The NGO https://www.freiheitsfonds.de/ raised 670 k € to free over 700 people from 137 years of prison AND saved the goverment around 10 million €.🤯
And this without taking into account the avoided (social) costs of the lives disrupted by jail time.
Already the social justice aspect is enough to support your cause. I just wanted to add the economic dimension, making it a total no-brainer. 👍
