If you’re a product person and are currently practicing your interviewing skills…
I just bought something and you could interview me for practice: a travel pack, I hesitated somewhat before buying, over $100, not a gift.
DM me, boosts appreciated!

I like this. Not milestones, but stepping stones.
"My favorite twist lately is thinking of milestones as stepping stones. I asked a team, "What are your stepping stones to get from here to there," and it clicked. It captures the idea that you are building a foundation and have options."
I recently got asked what an engineer could do to understand our users’ problems and the domain they’re operating in better. The answer to my “They can join me visiting and talking to them from time to time” was “Well, you don’t want the engineers to waste their time with the users” and I still can’t believe this. No second spent with users is wasted. No documentation in the world will ever replace or even get close to a real conversation. The PM is not the proxy between the engineers and the users. Just no. #productmanagent #ProductMgmt
...so that's my thread.
And if you'd like to read up more on the framework behind this model, check out the articles I wrote on sharpen.page on buyer psychology:

Back in November, 2021 a strange thing happened. After 25 years in engineering and 10 years in Engineering at Etsy, I wound up moving to Depop, post-acquisition, as Chief Product Officer. I thought I’d start sharing my thoughts here on what I’ve learned in a year on the job, how working in product differs from engineering, and what I think product managers really need from engineering. It has also clarified how I think about software architecture and I want to write about that. #productmgmt

A dev recently complained about our #roadmap “Even though there are some things on it for the beginning of the year, there are less and less the farer you look ahead. Also, there’s not a single feature on it but mostly business goals.” And now I really don’t know what to say…

I hope the new ones don't make the same mistake.. rather they make new ones..
So if you want to talk about #ProductMgmt you can hit me up on substack chat.

Discussion in a Product Team this week:
- Me: Are we user centric?
- Team (2 PM's 3 Product designers): Yeah definitely!
- Me: How many users did you guys speak with this week?
- Team: Err... well...
- Me: Did you learn anything about our users from data or session replays?
- Team: Hmm... Guess we can improve there.
From now on we'll list our learnings at each sprint because being centered on our users is important for us.

Planning a #ux / #product strategy workshop with a bunch of (mostly) developers for an #OpenSource project.
Any #ProductMgmt people out there with resources I could look at for inspiration? Google brings me links about big tech companies with lots of resources, which is less helpful for this context. 😅

Hi, I'm Rich (he/him), a 40-yr veteran of enterprise #productmanagement mostly in Silicon Valley (now in Portland OR). Blogging since 2002 at https://www.mironov.com/ about #ProductMgmt , #software, #organizational #leadership, SW pricing/packaging, economics of tech
Mostly coaching CPOs/VPS of Product these days, but always looking for smart #startups that need an hour or two of (gratis) help in those areas, esp if there's no product peep on the team yet
