I recently got asked what an engineer could do to understand our users’ problems and the domain they’re operating in better. The answer to my “They can join me visiting and talking to them from time to time” was “Well, you don’t want the engineers to waste their time with the users” and I still can’t believe this. No second spent with users is wasted. No documentation in the world will ever replace or even get close to a real conversation. The PM is not the proxy between the engineers and the users. Just no. #productmanagent #ProductMgmt

Back in November, 2021 a strange thing happened. After 25 years in engineering and 10 years in Engineering at Etsy, I wound up moving to Depop, post-acquisition, as Chief Product Officer.
