Polars 0.19 is out 🐻‍❄️ https://github.com/pola-rs/polars/releases/tag/py-0.19.0

Highlights:

- `sink_csv` for `LazyFrame`
- "massive expansion" of database support
- Rename `groupby` to `group_by` and some other methods (the old ones are deprecated ❗)
- Read/write support for Arrow IPC streams in DataFrames
- Lots of deprecated functionalities got removed

Jérémie has just released threadpoolctl 3.2.0:

This is a small Python library to inspect and change the size of the threadpools used by libraries dynamically linked to a Python program (e.g. OpenBLAS, MKL, OpenMP runtimes...).

It is quite useful to debug oversubscription problems in the #SciPy / #PyData ecosystem.

This new version makes it possible to register a custom controller for your own native library. See the changelog for details:

Today I'm giving a talk about Polars at the monthly PyData Madrid meetup, and it's been *exactly one year* since I wrote my first blog post about it.

After trying out the library and interacting @ritchie46 in spring 2022 I realized that Polars was the future of data processing in Python. It's spring 2023, Polars keeps growing, Ritchie has very ambitious plans for it.

🧵 I recently dived into a rabbit hole when attempting to fix the tests for #sklearn's OLS and Ridge regression solvers.

On the theoretical side, I now understand that the minimum norm solution for the centered problem without intercept is also the minimum norm
solution for the original problem (with intercept). Ridge/OLS on centered X & y followed by intercept computation is the approach (hereafter name type "a") we have been using for years.
