Hmm, die Haus-IT auf dem Dachboden zu platzieren, war wohl nicht meine smarteste Idee.

Ein #Proxmox Node und die #QNAP Box haben sich abgeschaltet, weil sie sich vor Überhitzung schützen wollten.

Immerhin hat die Redundanz des Proxmox Clusters dafür gesorgt, dass es keinen Ausfall gab, denn die zweite Box lief klaglos weiter.

1st benefit: QTS could not sync with my local GPS-based NTP server out of the box. QuTS does without issue. Starting to realize, if I’m going to do ZFS, I might want some slower drives. But, all SSD with NVMe caching is going to be really slick. #QNAP

@calvato @pjakobs So preiswert SSD mittlerweile sind halte ich den Einsatz einer HDD nur als Backup-Medium für sinnvoll. Ich nutze seit geraumer Zeit ausschließlich SSD in laufenden Systemen. Die Festplatten kommen in externe USB-Gehäuse. Beim Upgrade von Hardware kommen sogar NVMe-SSD zur Sicherheit vorübergehend in externe Gehäuse.
#QNAP halte ich auch für #empfehlenswert 👍🏼

Bekomme seit einiger Zeit täglich um 9:10 (nach Systemstart vermutlich) und um 23 Uhr (um den dreh soll es runterfahren) Mails vom #Qnap #Nas das es neue Updates gäbe. Das stimmt meist nicht.

Gibt es da eine Lösung oder ist der #Bug Qnap wenigstens bekannt?

Ich brauch mehr Speicherplatz, Geschwindigkeit¹ & Benutzerrechte, um Einstellungen vorzunehmen.
Ich werd BEIDE Netzlaufwerke ausrangieren & stattdessen nen Raspberry Pi 4 mit 8 GB RAM samt SSD-RAID hier aufstellen. Dann ginge auch das automatische Backup zur #pCloud ohne Probleme, im Gegensatz zu jetzt mit #Synology und #QNAP, die beide mit #pCloud inkompatibel sind.

Was muss ich beachten?

Ich habe gerade erstaunt festgestellt, dass #QNAP für mein über 10 Jahre altes NAS immer noch Sicherheitsupdates rausbringt. Hätte ich nicht mit gerechnet.

Bislang hatte ich #Debian auf dem Ding installiert, auch weil ich mir da länger Support von erhofft hatte. Doch ironischerweise wird die CPU jetzt nicht mehr unterstützt.

I've been wanting to host a private server for my kids to pretend they are YouTubers, I have a qnap Nas, I can't figure out how to either route "mydomain.qcloud.com" to a container on my qnap or port forward it? Or do I need a domain and tweak settings in my router? I wonder if anyone here has experience

Well, nothing seemed to work on the #qnap 🤬, so I tried a 3 second reset. That didn't work, no beep.
I did however notice afterwards that the status LED is flashing red/green every 1/2 second, so it might be rebuild the RAID is rebuilding, which unfortunately can take a long time.
Main volume is 8x 3TB WD Red Plus.

🤬 QNAP ... patched the thing last night and the device boots but I'm getting network timeouts when trying to connect via any method. Now I need to hook it up to a monitor to watch the console and possibly reset the thing. #qnap :ablobfoxbongo:

Nundenn, 5TB wieder druff kopieren. Des daaaaauert.

Gut, es scheint zu helfen, die externe Platte nicht direkt an der #QNAP zu haben, sondern am Laptop, und das übers Netz auf die QNAP zu schieben. Statt maximal 50MB/s die die QNAP direkt lieferte, sinds nun konstant eher so 90MB/s die da die grossen (>15G) Dateien rübergehen.

Immer noch lang genug am laufen, jaaa.

Oh my, #QNAP, I am less than impressed with your "HBS3 Backup" thingie. It happily starts a backup it *knows* will not work, due to source being way larger than destination.

It happily tries to backup in ways that technically won't work (hey, file too large for this type of filesystem? Lets try writing, maybe it magically will work. Oh. Oops).
When it fails, the reason is cryptic, so user can only guess why things fail.

And oh boy, it is so slow. No, I'm not talking about the actual writing to USB (a record-breaking 50MB/s on USB3, come on) - it takes AGES to calculate what to do. And its reading from an 8-disk RAID6 (with 2 M2 SSD as cache in front) and has 48G RAM available...

Bah.
