I use memos a lot in data analysis, but an unintended benefit I only just recognized today is a psychological one.

Memos feel way more low stakes than adding paragraphs to my dissertation chapter drafts. I'll probably cut and paste today's memo directly into my dissertation, but I wrote it with none of pressure I'd normally feel to "get it right."

My new article Co-existing structures of feeling: Senses and imaginaries of industrial neighbourhoods is out in The Sociological Review. Drawing on multi-sited ethnography, it theorises the concept of structure of feeling by sociologist Raymond Williams.

Today's #GenderInMedicine paper is another #QualitativeResearch psper looking at residents in the US and their expereince of resus team leadership through the ens of gender: 'Afraid of being Witchy with a B'

25 residents (16 female) participated in semi structured interviews with investigators exploring what the ideal resus team leader may look like, and how they expereinced leading resus teams

In the 20 years since I started in #criticalcare there has been a huge push toward more patient-centred, multidisciplinary team working. Rounds are where the main decisions for the day are discussed, made and communicated.

Fascinating that there isnt more #QualitativeResearch into what makes a good ICU ward rounds, and how decisions are made.

In my career I have seen a big move away from consultant/attending opining at end of bed while everyone else just nods along - a v good thing, IMO!
