My @matrix #Synapse #Homeserver running on the @PINE64 #quartz64 was getting slower and slower... Until I migrated the DB from Sqlite to Posgresql!

Everything is much faster now! Synchronization would take 1-2 minutes, it barely takes a few seconds now!

Conslusion : do not run a homeserver with sqlite, even if it's a small 1 user instance!

m.2 slots would be nice but I think someone needs to make a cm4 board to cover this idea
but the pine #Quartz64 model a has a pci slot which you could easily find a 4 port sata card to work with.

@onewheelgeek you should be able find a pine #quartz64 board as an alternative without much issue.

@kubikpixel I got myself a #Pine64 #Quartz64 Model A, and installed Armbian and some docker containers on it. 2x 2TB HDDs in it as storage. Works great!

According to https://gadgetversus.com/processor/rockchip-rk3399-vs-rockchip-rk3566/ the more recent #Quartz64 has a weaker #CPU than #RockPro64...
What am I missing? 😅

You can buy 2 #quartz64 boards that are more powerful and versatile than the competing Raspberry Pi.

I installed 4 new SSDs (6 in total) in my #NAS based on the @PINE64 #Quartz64 #ARM board as an experiment!

2 x 1TB in btrfs mirror mode for various services and docker. Currently running my @matrixdotorg #synapse home server.

4 x 1TB in RAID5 for data storage.

This is my #NAS now ! @PINE64 #quartz64 #arm @Rockchip #RK3566

The board and SSD are powered by a #PicoPSU. There are only 2*1TB SSDs installed, but I would like to install 6 of them in the future!

It's comfortably running my @matrix #homeserver right now!

Another option to keep an eye on is #Pine64's #Quartz64.
It's actually a bit less powerful then the RockPro64, but it's made on a 22nm process node so more energy efficient. Optionally with 8GB of RAM.

The software on the RP64 is more mature, but great strides are being made to get everything working properly for the Quartz64.

And one aspect that doesn't get enough attention IMO:
Everything gets implemented/pushed to mainline Linux, so no dependency on BSP kernels (=dead-end imo)
