The moral panics of today are the moral panics of yesterday. Writing on the 1893 World Columbian Exposition in Chicago, historian, Jim Elledge notes:

On this day in 1988 the “ Avengers” abseiled into the House of Lords to protest the enactment of which banned the discussion of in schools.

We need more of this energy today.

The image is of activists slapping a commemorative plaque (modelled on the official English Heritage plaques) on the House of Lords in 2017 to mark the occasion (The Lords took it back down of course).

Help me help middle schoolers! Does anyone have an easy-to-digest presentation for a principal who needs help understanding what Pride Month is all about? A brief history, definitions, the purpose of celebrating it? This would be to send to a MS principal who is open-minded but old 😉, to get him on board with the concept.

It's in the UK, and its very noticeable how its gone from widely marked to controversial in less than 5 years
The erasure of queer history is one of the ways those opposed to our rights constantly infantalise us, its a recursion of - this is new therefore this is immature - over and over again

I was born in 1981. I vividly remember as a child hearing the cishet adults around me repeating in whispers to each other the myth that bisexual men were the primary AIDS vector for cishet women as if it were a fact.

My husband brought this home for me to read, Len and Cub a queer history. The real life story of two young gay men in early 20th century New Brunswick.
So far an absolutely fascinating glimpse into a deeply conservative Canada and how queer people lived.

I Want What I Want (Geoff Brown) – A 1960s novel of a growing up in the straightjacket of English society. A typically tragic tale, being very much of its era in terms of representation, but a critical part of and a staple of many older bookshelves.

And anyone who wants to argue about the reclamation of "queer" is cordially invited to step on a LEGO. Despite literally having a degree in this stuff, I don't have the time, the inclination, or the crayons to do Queer 101 with y'all, especially since I know damn well many of you already know this, and are just sealioning to be obnoxious. Unless you plan to pay me for my time, go read a book or something, and stop telling lies.

Here's a blog/wiki on the case that uses Cam's actual name and identity: unsolvedmysteries.fandom.com/w

Note how much this episode tries to dissect Cam's identity and his goals in life while downplaying his murder as symptomatic of his transition. Compare this to this account's toot series re: The Dale (end.)

The organization proved so successful that technical workers (the digital sciences, in other words) were incorporated into the group in purpose and name (NOGLSTP)

In addition to community success, the organization proved to be so credible that they were called in to assist in the aftermath to the High Tech Gays v. DISCO, DISCO being the Defense Investigative Security Clearance Office. The ruling, finalized in 1990, made being an out scientists difficult (cont...)
