Over 3000 signatories so far.
"As academics, artists, advocates, policy-makers, and concerned persons from different parts of the world, we emphatically oppose the attacks being waged on educational curricula in the United States and elsewhere against intersectionality, critical race theory, Black feminism, queer theory, and other frameworks that address structural inequality. We join the thousands of signatories who have opposed censoring critical content in public and higher education. We also agree with the 30 Black LGBTQ organizations that have denounced the “relentless attacks that have led to book banning, curriculum censorship, politically motivated purges of educators, and an exodus of skilled teachers.” …
"When the College Board finally made public its long-awaited African American Studies course on February 1, students were left with a watered-down curriculum that expunged key lessons, scholarship, and course goals from previous drafts of the course. Contemporary issues such as structural racism, Black Lives Matter, reparations, and prison abolition—issues that resurfaced during 2020’s reckoning with anti-Black racism and increased student demand for African American studies—were reduced or eliminated. Lessons and course goals pertaining to intersectionality, Black queer studies, and Black feminism had been removed entirely or downgraded to untested optional material, subject to state and local censors …
"Contrary to “anti-woke” propaganda and the College Board’s conclusion, intersectionality is a vibrant and organic conceptualization of historical and social dynamics. In its most basic form, intersectionality is a prism that uncovers how structures of subordination often interact, exacerbating the problem-solving challenges faced by those who are multiply marginalized …
"We cannot expect anyone—students or ourselves—to understand problems we are no longer permitted to name or to prepare for a future we cannot imagine. The fight for our ideas, our language, and our history is critical to the fight for our lives. Thus, we demand that the College Board restore critical concepts, scholarship, and frameworks to the African American Studies course, and to resist pending demands from other states to bend to their “anti-woke” orthodoxy."

"In the early 1990s, gay had come to be used more typically to refer to gay men. Respectful and inclusive standards of language evolved to “lesbian and gay”, and then “LGBT”, as bisexuals and transgender people sought greater recognition.
"Queer began to be used in a different way again: not as a synonym for gay, but as a critical and political identity that challenged normative ideas about sexuality and gender.
"Queer theory drew on social constructionism – the theory that people develop knowledge of the world in a social context – to critique the idea any sexuality or gender identity was normal or natural. This showed how particular norms of sexuality and gender were historically contingent …
"Queer’s predominant use today is as an affirming term that is inclusive of all people in the rainbow acronym."

finally reading "i sexually identify as an attack helicopter" and it boggles my mind that anyone could have imagined a cis person to write this. it's actually really insightful about how the military industrial complex recuperates critical theory

I've just moved servers so another one of these.
Hákarl is the name of my musical project - guitar, oud, violin. Sounds like this: https://vimeo.com/394663122
I live in #Brighton (UK, boo). My politics are broadly (left-) anarchist. Trans rights are human rights, Black Lives Matter.
There's a longer story about it but I use 'they' pronouns online - I do identify IRL as cis (boo) but I'd rather people who don't know me didn't identify me with a gender.
I'm interested in coding (#Python #JavaScript in the main), theory (especially #queerTheory, #cripTheory). I can bore you to tears about #typography and things like #functionalProgramming.
#architecture is a thing that is fit. #crypto is the opposite of fit and you should stop it.

My partner published her first paper today (!) and I think that's my favorite line.
It's in the journal Liminalities and it's called "Fire and Futurity: Riot, its Object, and Queer Potentiality in the George Floyd Uprising"
According to the abstract it "employs the framework of performance studies scholar José Muñoz’s queer futurity in order to reframe the initiation of the George Floyd uprising and demonstrate the sociopoltical efficacy of the first fire of that global movement," the burning of the AutoZone across from the third precinct (as streamed by Niko of @UnicornRiot)
It's an academic defense of smashing shit up and burning shit down.
"Fires, like riots and queer futures, are a renewal."
This is a link to the issue http://liminalities.net/18-4/ and the pdf is here: http://liminalities.net/18-4/fire.pdf

The rebellion and the reprimand seemed to be caught up in the same terms, a phenomenon that gave rise to my first insight into the subtle ruse of power: the prevailing law threatened one with trouble, even put one in trouble, all to keep one out of trouble.
Hence, I concluded that trouble is inevitable and the task, how best to make it, what best way to be in it."
