#R3 Okay we are now on a... ARM64 server π
Nothing will really change on yall end, but enjoy !
#R3 Okay everything is done... showtime, light will be out for I hope no long, see yall ~
#R3 I might try some funkyness in the next hour, bear with me if the server is inaccessible for some time...
Don't worry everything will be safe beside our uptime π
#R3 Well seems like my ever growing disk usage in a container still isn't fixed fuck.
π I'll have to keep digging
#R3 So one of the issue with disk space we had, I think, was an issue with docker volume mistake on my part.
To recap, in docker containers, every volume is some kind of overlayfs, and when you run the container this overlay is still snapshoted so it can be quite hardcore on the disk / performance.
To correct this, nginx made /var/cache/nginx a volume, making it leave the overlayfs and just stay on the host's filesystem, much more efficient.
And me, I wanted to mount it somewhere I wanted (a disk with more space), but I ended borking it and thus making it writing on the overlayfs π«
So, I think I fixed it, and hopefully this kind of error shouldn't happen again π
See you soon for when I'll try to move out of docker and/or move R3 on arm π
#R3 I think I will try to migrate the database to a new place, expect some downtimes soon (following minutes/hours maybe...)
I don't often have the time to do this kind of thing but it should ease the frequent "500 error" that we get sometime π
#R3 some of you seemed worried about all the noise around Facebook & fedi, just to be clear:
- Yes I'm not gonna try to ingest Facebook-tier quantity of content, I don't see the point.
- Why the fuck would Facebook go on fedi...?? Instagram team just announced, again, working on some text-centered social network lol. People making a fuss on some rumors just because some bad press and some fedi software bigshots spoke to other social network engineers who are making the exact same kind software ?
- If you don't want to be scraped by anyone, put your profile in private, I've done everything on my end for #R3 to not be as easily scrapable since ages but it's no magic bullet.
If you have your profil in public today, it's likely you've been scraped tens of time already, petitions and people screaming didn't scared anyone asshole-y enough to not care advertising what they where doing (and the stupid but more humans one trying to be transparent got their head chopped lol)
Also dw, It's not a couple hundreds thousands (I'm being generous) terminally online peeps that's gonna motivate some hardcore scrapping from a >2 billions users company.
CDN is going crazy, #R3 outputted 10TB of media ? Big doubt lol.
I think I will refrain from using a CDN, and will revert to having a tiny server caching and distributing the media.
I'd like to keep it separated so distributing media will stay in check while browsing timelines will not be impacted.
But yeah, you might have tens of milliseconds more time to wait before seeing the new memes.
#R3 as I'm unable to reach the person tru their PayPal's emails I'm asking everyone who's tipping me through ko-fi to check their tutanota mail especially if ya giving me 20 goddamn bucks per months I'm kinda sure it was meant to be a one time tip please check your tutanota emails aaa
Would #R3 inhabitants mind if, say, in the future, #R3 wasn't Mastodon but some alternative server compatible with Mastodon's api ?
It would mean:
- Most apps will still works
- More control for me over the server so it could be more manageable technically
- Maybe less prone to explode if some people post zillions FFXIV screenshots and Lesbians comics
But also:
- Will not really follow ASAP what the "flagship" software want to steer fediverse in (for the best or the worst)
- Ofc, maybe more bugs with apps and frontends made for Masto originally
- Maybe other kind of unknown problems
#R3 Okay turbulences should be done, have a nice day, night or remaining of either
#R3 tiny updates of the server, expect tiny downtimes in the following minutes
Apparently #Realforce just released the #R3 o.O
Biggest differences seem to be APC now even configurable down to 0.8 Actuation Point Travel, a lot more key maps and silent as well as wireless support.
