Glad Ministers have finally seen sense & poured cold water over planned bonfire of 4,000 critical EU laws. But this #REULBill is not yet dead. Govt could still end up weakening vital environmental legislation - attacks on nature must end once & for all.

The #REULBill won't just fail to maintain our existing environmental standards - there's literally a requirement written into the Bill *not* to make legislation stronger. For the Minister to argue this Bill will deliver "positive environmental outcomes" is absolutely staggering

The Chair of @OfficeforEP - the Govt's own environmental regulator - said #REULBill "doesn't offer any safety net, there's no requirement to maintain existing levels of environmental protection". Govt pledges that this Bill protects standards aren't worth paper they're written on

Unless these 4,000 EU laws are retained, replaced or amended, they will be automatically revoked on 31 December. Yet there are *checks notes* 3 (yes, just 3) full-time civil service staff co-ordinating these law changes at DEFRA, one of the departments most affected #REULBill

Ministers don't actually know what the costs & impacts of implementing the Bill will even be. We are being asked to grant Ministers vast powers, with no indication of the possible impact on businesses, the public & our environment. #REULBill

MPs *still* haven't been told which specific laws are actually going to be slashed. The Govt's 'Retained EU Law dashboard' sets out a fraction of the laws in scope of the Bill, and it hasn't been updated in months. #REULBill
