Liquid biopsies, which use just a blood draw to test for cancer, are a promising technology for catching the disease early on when it’s most treatable.
UC Santa Cruz Assistant Prof. of Biomolecular Engineering Daniel Kim and his lab have shown that an innovative approach for this tech that uses sequencing of RNA “dark matter” in the blood significantly improves disease detection.

A handheld, at-home #water quality test created by a scientific start-up has received a $3 million grant. The U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) will fund Northwestern project to develop and distribute water-quality test kits in the Chicago area.
