Nice write-up of the SBD Dauntless on the way to Pioneer Aero at Auckland NZ for restoration, as well as the type's history with the #RNZAF. I built a big (1/32?) model in NZ markings as a kid. Hopefully I will get a chance to see the project in progress, as well as test flights. #AvGeek

Might have to grab some #RNZAF markings for when I get round to building it, because just like how every model doesn't have to have all the detail, not every WW2 Corsair has to be VF-84 either* 🙂

*Just like not every P-51D was 8th AF, not every P-40 had sharkmouth markings (or Gloria Lyons if it's RNZAF), and not every RNZAF Avenger was Plonky etc
Nothing against people building in those schemes, there are just so many of them 🙂

For those who followed along with the #FlatPackCorsair , the threatened sequel has arrived in the post. Chosen because it's exactly the same colours as the wooden one, being Tamiya and probably the best kit in scale is a bonus.

And since my native #RNZAF operated more than 400 of them, while I was ordering stuff online I got some decals for the other Corsair kits I had lying around (for quite some time for one of them, that's 1/1 scale dust).

As of today the Orion is officially retired from RNZAF service, after more than 55 years and countless search and rescues. I've taken a bunch of photos of them over the years, but this one being chased by its shadow is one of my favourites.

RNZAF P-3K2 Farewell flight over Wellington yesterday, as seen from Brandon's Rock in Newlands. Not the sharpest pics I've ever taken as I didn't have time to get to a closer spot, but still a cool thing to see as the Orion disappears from NZ skies after 55 years of service.

Two RAAF P-8As are currently deployed to Clark & have been observed flying #maritime #surveillance missions over the contested #SouthChinaSea

Clark is increasingly used by 'western' aircraft operating in the region, including U.S #Navy P-8As, & EP-3s, #RNZAF P-3K2s and RAAF P-8As and AP-3C (EW) Orions.
