@NoraReed See, this is my thing about ADHD people having RSD. When people reject you multiple times every waking hour, of every day, of every year of your life simply because your brain functions differently than most people’s, then yes, you tend to be a little sensitive it to rejection. It’s not a disorder, it’s trauma.

I have a very hard time handling people I care about being upset at me— and even the smallest things make me afraid that they are. I can’t believe I literally JUST LEARNED that there’s a term for it, Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria (RSD), and it’s very common for people with ADHD. So I thought I’d post about it, just in case I’m not the last person on the internet hearing about it.

1. Fachliteratur bezweifelt z.T., ob #RSD eigenes Krankheitsbild ist oder "nur" #Persönlichkeitsmerkmal (woher auch immer). M.E. erleben es aber viele Menschen, dh. ist es sinnvoll, dafür Bezeichnung zu haben.

2. Schnelles Abklingen mag bei #ADHS klappen. Wenn #RSD auf Trauma basiert, kann das aber extrem lange dauern, weil #Amigdala verändert ist. So erfahre ich es selbst.

I should probably tell them; I want communication and a long term relationship with them
But everytime I wore a skirt, earrings, bra or long hair
then everytime my earrings got larger, skirt shorter, glasses thicker, or more colorful and more myself in appearance
I received negative feedback
So this change in my hormones and appearance won't be met with support, just confusion and the assumption that I haven't thought the decision through for most of my life

A toot thread of trying guanfacine to treat rejection sensitive dysphoria:

I'm an #ADHDer and #autist I have rejection sensitive dysphoria or #RSD

This evening before going to bed I will be taking the first dose of guanfacine, an alpha agonist that is sometimes used as a non-stimulant med for adhd in adolescents, but evidence is accumulating that it can treat RSD in adults with adhd.

Recommendation is start taking at night, as it can cause drowsiness. Do not take with high fat meals.

@IzabelaKaramia I was reading about #RSD this morning after I read something you wrote about it. I think I used to struggle with this when I was younger, I’m grateful I don’t anymore. I don’t know if it’s because I got older or if it’s because I realized that most people are shit. I am just happy to be free from it & I hope you will be too someday. ❤️ My brother also had #ADHD and he was a huge people pleaser, so I think he struggled with RSD, but I blamed our parents for that.

After this toot I found out I wasn't getting a job I really wanted 🤣😭 but at least I'm working with an organization in my job search so I have help and advice etc. But it's still so hard for me. It takes all my emotional energy. #ADHD #RSD #traumarecovery

Talked to my husband and showed him the screenshots of the weird incident where someone blocked me because I asked about their art. His response was, "People are weird." It's a mystery why that happened, and because of my #RSD, it did make me feel really bad. I'm alright now, just really confused by that reaction.

omfg I have done this so much in my life - combined with the inability to know when is the right time to speak due to my missing social cues.
