Wel, enorm.
Hij speelde eerst op zeezender #radiolondon eigenzinnig zijn plaatjes, en later bij de BBC gaf hij artiesten de kans een opname te maken die dan wereldwijd beluisterd werd. De beroemde #JohnPeelSessions.
Zelfs in Nederland had hij een tijd een wekelijks programma.
Zo liet hij mensen onder andere David Bowie en Underworld kennen. Maar ook vele all-female bands.
