I love the hodgepodge of liveries you see on Conrail trains back in the very early years.

I've seen mostly old Penn Central units, but there's been Erie Lackawanna, Reading, and Lehigh Valley. Some units have already been updated to Conrail's trademark blue scheme that I saw all the time when I was a kid.

Designed by Brooks Stevens and built in 1948, the Milwaukee Road’s Skytop cars are the most beautiful ever conceived.

Four lounges were built by the Milwaukee for use between Chicago and Minneapolis. Six sleepers were built by Pullman for the long distance Olympian Hiawatha, then sold to CN in Canada. They all retired in the 70s.

Of the ten, only Minneapolis-based “Cedar Rapids” is operable. I’ve had the pleasure to ride and photograph her several times - here are my favorites. #Railfan

In steam boilers, you don't need a thermometer, because the pressure gauge also tells you how hot it is. The higher the pressure, the higher above 100°C the boiling point is, the hotter it needs to get to make more steam.
