"Only when unions abandon their reformist and statist agendas will workers be able to properly flex their power and fight for what we deserve." #Railroadstrike https://itsgoingdown.org/unions-and-the-state-lessons-1940s/

Since when workers are required to ask permission to strike?
You just strike, better working conditions won't come from the goodness of the hearts of the employers, much less the Tories government.

For those who are trying to claim that the Democrats are the good guys in the rail worker debacle & that Dems "fought" for rail workers by trying to force a contract, please let RWU clear that up for you. https://myemail.constantcontact.com/Press-Release--The-Democrat-Republican-One-Two-Punch-to-Rail-Labor.html?soid=1116509035139&aid=DzbNIMbXYic #RailStrike #rail #railroad #Railroadstrike #RailroadWorkersUnited #railroad #RailWorkers #WildcatStrike #strike #Democrats

Railroad workers cannot be alone in this fight. Over the years, there have been so many empty calls for a general strike. Now seems to be one hell of a time to show up and throw down. The workers alone, who don’t have days off to organize themselves let alone rest, need support.
We’ve seen railway blockades work in the past. Russian anarchists right now are sabotaging rail lines to prevent military equipment from reaching the frontline in Ukraine. We need to see a diversity of tactics. Calling your senator is simply not enough.

Joe Biden "The Union Man" is a fucking traitor to the people. Biden pushing to force railroad workers to work long hours with no sick days. Well Biden can GFH
The Senate not approving sick leave for rail workers, but voting overwhelmingly to interfere in the collective bargaining process to force a deal on behalf of the industry oligarchs is such a stark depressing contrast.
We know where the party largely stands. Both of them. This shouldn't be surprising anymore, and it's not, but it will always feel disappointing.
Democrats shouldn't be let off the hook for this. They're going to try to use the second sick leave bill the house passed as cover to still claim they're pro-labor. As is tradition.
The bots and trolls and Democratic strategists and talking heads are going to say to this "No, no, no the only reason this happened was because the Republicans in the Senate. The answer is to 🎺🎺 VOTE FOR US (you spoiled brat)(also can you send us $15)"
But Biden called for EXACTLY this to happen. TWICE. Pelosi echoed that in her own statements. They didn't have to do this. Nobody made them cross the pocket line to side with the chamber of congress. They didn't have to send the Senate a bill with no sick leave. They own this outcome.
Only thing left now is to see what the unions are going to do about it. Listen to Congress, take the contract given to them, and go back to work, or is it wildcat time?

This is a really good piece on why the owners of rail in the US don't want to give time off. Think just in time manufacturing, but also having complete flexibility over the workforce.
I say go wild cat and to paraphrase from John L. Lewis... Joe Biden can conduct the train and Chuck and Nancy can load and unload freight #wildcat #railroad #union #railroadstrike

#Biden is no friend of workers or marginalized communities. No president ever has been.
His betrayal of the railroad strikers is therefore not a surprise, and should be seen as a call to radical action for all strikers.
My respect to all workers who fight for a decent living and better job protections. You're doing the actual work that keeps our society running, not the politicians or your bosses.
Workers of the world unite!
I helped to work on data for Violation Tracker, which was used to find penalties charged to railroad companies for this article on the railroad strike.
How certain are we that the US railroad unions know that strikes can be both illegal and effective? #Railroadstrike #railworkerstrike #railroad #biden #unions

Fuck Mayor Pete, possibly the least surprising D to come out against the rail workers here. And the misinformation about the contract, making it sound like it wasn't a TENTATIVE agreement that the workers rejected. :fuck_verify:
Congress has far too many lobbyists and donors from industries nervous about unionizing to be trusted to make a fair deal for these workers.
These Democrats love to talk about how important Democracy is when they're begging for campaign donations.
They'll tell you "go vote" if you complain about inaction or outright harm coming from Congress.
But don't you dare try to enact some democracy in whatever you peons do with your time between the voting booths.
Certainly not in your workplace- the place you spend almost your entire waking adult life- no, no, no, this must be stopped.
The almighty economy must never cease its growth. It might harm the shareholders.
Another kicker here is he took weeks off, just a few months ago, when his kid was sick. But doesn't think railroad workers deserve the same. 😒

Some #Railroadstrike thoughts. Some of the US rail unions have narrowly approved the negotiated deal, while others have narrowly voted it down. But this seems to be a sea change in rail labor. 🧵1/7

Re: the railroad strike stuff, I was discussing on Reddit and the sprites from the workers are horrifying. No time off for births, deaths, illness…literally half of them are ok with getting ONE sick day a year as a starting point https://c.im/@shansterable/109390989214495805 #RailroadStrike #USPol #railroads #union #solidarity

The bulk of international ocean freight lies within the rail costs. If the container costs were $1800 to Shanghai, $1300 of that would be rail from Detroit. Rail companies can afford to give their workers good conditions. They choose not to.
