"The Church of England moved with the times though, and now, in the judgement of the several archbishops from the global south, it has moved right out of biblical orthodoxy. While the 10 archbishops, mostly from the “Global South,” are numerically a minority in the Anglican communion, they govern a majority of Anglicans in the world. One hundred years ago, three quarters of all Anglicans lived in Britain. Now 60 per cent are in Africa."

"The coronation oaths make clear that he who is crowned is not an absolute monarch, but a constitutional one. The promise “to govern” is explicitly “according to (the) respective laws and customs” of the King’s various realms. The principle of Crown-in-Parliament at the heart of Canadian Constitution is made clear."

Last week there was an item in the news about the "repudiating the so-called 'Doctrine of Discovery'", as put it. My understanding is in line with what Fr writes in the article, that the Church never taught such principle as doctrine.

Wikipedia has a fuller discussion of the concept: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discov .

"It has been several years since I last encountered the behemoth of the presidential motorcade, but there it was on Thursday night in Ottawa in all of its decadence."

"The enormous bloat was bearing down upon us. Like children counting rolling stock at a railway crossing, our little impeded group began to count. I gave up after a few dozen, but a hardier soul persisted until she was up over a hundred."

"The allegation that a sitting MP from the government caucus took the side of the Chinese Communists in the kidnapping of Canadian citizens is such an enormity that only an open, transparent inquiry can clear his name.
That’s why Dong himself voted for an inquiry on Thursday, contrary to his former Liberal colleagues. If he is innocent of the charge, he deserves a public exoneration."

Australia, like Canada, has a shortage of GP doctors. Would it help if they could charge patients extra? No, they already can in Australia. Why do fewer doctors want to be GPs these days?

See my next post for 's explanation...

"In the days after his accession, King Charles III addressed parliamentarians in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Despite that early show of commitment to the unity of his kingdom, it is not unimaginable that his reign will witness the dissolution of the United Kingdom. Will Scotland attempt to separate? Perhaps, but it is Northern Ireland that bears closer watching."

"Last month, Trudeau celebrated his son’s birthday by bungee-jumping. It is actually possible to do so without video being released. But that’s of course not what happened.

's "story highlights how the halls of privilege have been remarkably open to the children of immigrants. Sunak followed the same path as many a duke’s heir, studying with the elite at Winchester College, then Oxford, then Stanford, then emerging from those rigours to work at Goldman Sachs. Then he made his money the old-fashioned British way, by marrying the daughter of a billionaire."

That's from Fr. , making a claim about why we're hearing about rape cover-ups with these days.

"Queen Elizabeth II visited Moose Jaw more often than she did Manhattan. The former was part of her realms; the latter not. She was the Queen of Canada and chose to exercise that duty and serve her people over the perquisites of her position."

Is the first claim really true? Fr. De Souza says she went to six times; I can't think of any times she visited , but she must have at least once, no?

"The difference was in the eyes. Diana’s were pellucid with sorrow, windows on an unhappy heart. Teresa’s eyes were radiant with the joy of love, love of God and love of the poorest of the poor. Most people who met Mother Teresa said that she was beautiful. She really was not, by any standard, but those eyes! Through those windows shone a soul so bright that it lit up the whole world from some of the darkest places on Earth."

"Remember that for decades Ontario’s prosecution of infant deaths was so corrupt that parents were bullied into confessing to raping and killing their own children. They did not commit those crimes, but the sheer power of the prosecutors and pathology “experts” was sufficient to break them, destroying their lives."

The consequence, according to Fr.

"Indeed, the panel advocates firing all Muslim and Orthodox Jewish chaplains, as well Catholic priests and many Protestant pastors. They will all fall afoul of the new theological orthodoxy."

"The Florida court applied principles of administrative law to the mask mandate. Was it within the statutory authority of the CDC? Did the CDC exercise that authority responsibly and with restraint, or employ it in an arbitrary and expansive fashion? Once those questions starting being asked, it became evident that the mandate was not so much argued for as it was asserted."

point out the most positive legacy of 's ouster:

"[P]arliamentary democracy, for the first time in ages, is stronger in Canada. An actual parliamentary caucus, operating by the rules of Michael Chong’s Reform Act, flexed its muscles and exercised something of the power that the Westminster system reposes in them."
