This week Michael planted 15 Caryodendron orinocnese (the source of cacay oil) trees into our budding food forest.

The benefits of this incredibly productive and endlessly beneficial native tree are thrilling to contemplate. Abundant food for us and our animals, valuable oil for cooking, cosmetics, and soap making, shade for our coffee and cacao, and super carbon-sequestering abilities - what more could one ask for?

Our main goal is to leave this place better than how we found it, but we are specifically working to build healthy soil, improve water & nutrient cycles, reduce runoff, and create wildlife habitat for all the native flora & fauna to thrive along with us.

To that end, we are always trying to learn how to be more effective at our job of caring for the land, and we employ various tools under the #regenerativeAg and #permaculture umbrellas when they work well within our specific context.

In the UK they're called veg box subscriptions, in Germany, Solidarische Landwirtschaft. I wonder if communities could be engaged to help with harvesting and farming in exchange for reduced costs, or a premium for those that don't want to help.

We've got 90 beds, each 10m x 0.75m, so 675m2 of cultivable surface. Attached picture shows the beginning of our first season in 2020.
