"Preprints can improve publishing" - @pcirr recommender Charlotte Pennington discusses #preprints & #registeredreports in this feature article published in Nature Human Behaviour! https://www.nature.com/articles/s41562-023-01637-2
Let's talk about Registered Reports (RRs) and what @pcirr does...
PCI RR manages peer review of RRs across disciplines - #STEM, #Medicine, #SocialSciences & #Humanities.
Submissions are peer-reviewed & recommended in 2 stages thus increasing #transparency and #rigor in the final work!

On the occasion of CERN-NASA summit on accelerating adoption of #OpenScience we were wondering about preregistration practice in physics/astrophysics - we couldn’t really find any preregistrations from that discipline and no journals from that field seem to have #RegisteredReports.
If it’s very uncommon - is that because it’s not a very useful tool in that field? Or it’s common but we are just not looking in the right place?

This primer on #qualitative #registeredreports is very brief (perhaps too brief! More please!) but is a good starting point for those new to qualitative approaches to registered reports (a publication type where you get the main peer-review before data collection).
It was a really timely read as tomorrow I’m writing up plans for a new qual RR!

Today Nora Serres chats with Sarah Sauve about #RegisteredReports and how cool #Bayesian stats are:

Evidence from psychology shows that #registeredreports have a lower positive result rate than the standard literature & likely reduces #publicationbias & QRPs

Just came out from a #Inrae workshop organized by #ecodiv department about #slowscience . A good opportunity to learn more about #RegisteredReports and two-stage research process to disentangle #postdiction from hypothesis-testing. This is appealing and definitely requires to slow down the publication frenzy !

"To be clear, Registered Reports are not new. They have been around for at least a decade. ... According to the Center for Open Science, more than 300 journals already offer this format, up from around 200 in 2019. But despite having been around for a while, Registered Reports are still not widely known — or widely understood — among researchers. This must change. And, at Nature, we want to play a part in changing it."

It's already two years that the journal "Psychological Test Adaptation and Development" has been around. In their editorial the editors review what has been achieved and what needs to be done going forward:

"PTAD wants to be an outlet for studies adapting existing assessment tools to specific populations, languages, cultures, age groups, etc."
They also reflect on the integration of #OpenScience practices such code & data sharing or #RegisteredReports.

My top tips for passing the @pcirr recommender test
1) take test & fail (I failed the 1st time)
2) read explanations for why you got the wrong answers
3) keep the window w test results OPEN
4) open a new browser window & take test again
5) for the qs that were previously false, search for keywords @ [Recommender's guide](https://rr.peercommunityin.org/help/guide_for_recommenders) & [Full policies](https://rr.peercommunityin.org/about/full_policies) & read thru for the correct answer
It's worth it to be part of this amazing community!

When #PeerReview identifies discrepancies between a manuscript and its respective #Registration, changing the registration is usually the worst possible option.
Community approaches to this differ, but I would expect to fare well with a section on "Deviations from the Registration".

Two interesting papers on different ways consolidating hypotheses and analyses:
One are different types of Registration (incl. #RegisteredReports), the other is conducting analyses with key data being masked.
Blinding analyses:
https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11229-019-02456-7
Blinding vs. #Registration:
https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/25152459221128319
It seems that combining this to "report writing based on masked data" could be a viable combination.
