Ahhh yes. #RemoveMyContentFromSearchEngines
#RemoveMyContentFromSearchEngines
Just to be clear I've done some digging and it looks like the infosec server on Mastodon is doing some interesting things regarding protecting the privacy of their server members from ONE particular user who was scraping fediverse data to build a fediverse search engine. #removemycontentfromsearchengines was a way to flag to that ONE person that you wanted to opt out, but it WILL NOT protect your content from search engines generally.
#RemoveMyContentFromSearchEngines
Want to #RemoveMyContentFromSearchEngines ? You do know you can go to "../settings/preferences/other" to disable search engine indexing and technically have your content removed the next time it's crawled again?
(It's like a "Do Not Track", it doesn't has to be respected by the search engine but Google, out of all the places, does.)

Y'all, #RemoveMyContentFromSearchEngines is not how search engines work. There's an option in Mastodon's settings that you can set so that your profile automatically noindexes, but you don't set it by posting a hashtag. And even so, Google doesn't necessarily respect noindex - it sees it as a suggestion, not a mandate. Your social media content has ALWAYS been fair game to search engines, and just like there's a widget for tweets on SERP I wouldn't be surprised to see a widget for toots.

#RemoveMyContentFromSearchEngines If it was even there to begin with. Apparently someone was trying to index the Fediverse to provide search functionality. Looks like the projects been cancelled now but I’m doing this just in case.
