Like many others, I await a world where #RepairReuseRecycle is the norm. Until that day arrives, I'll gladly take whatever hacks I can find to keep busted things alive. The latest patient was one ear of a set of Audio Technica ATH-M50 headphones. An inner hinge was busted and the headphones wouldn't sit on my head properly. A brief internet search gave me my answer: one little zip tie worth a few cents. Fixed in about thirty seconds. Thank you fixable folks! <3

Earlier in the week I repaired a friend's receiver. This was also a mechanical problem, grease in the rotary selectors for source and volume control had become conductive so it has began to spontaneously changed source or wound the volume to maximum. Cleaning the grease out restored normal operation.
Too many things are thrown away when there is nothing much wrong with them.

A reasonably productive Sunday morning. I repaired Judy's hairdryers.
The newer one made a nasty smell and then completely stopped working a few days back. It turns out that a switch contact had burnt out. Cleaning out the switch and resoldering it the opposite way around (making use of two otherwise contacts that are otherwise never used) made it work like new.
The older one that replaced it worked but made a squealing noise, this just needed hair to be removed and a bit of grease applied to a bearing.

Thanks to an old mobile phone charger and a surplus to requirements 22000uf capacitor, my doorbell is now no longer battery powered.

Posted 15 photos: I made a bath mat from eight pillowcases (aka a rag rug). Shredded in a continuous spiral and then normal crochet with a big hook. Worked great! (The first section I made multiple strips and tied the together but it was very lumpy and harder to crochet.
