I've noticed many folks reply with "#public" setting; I have been using "#unlisted" to be kind to #timelines, but then I notice that I get little #engagement (lower than I'd expect given others engagement for similar comments).

One of the classical Mastodon customs is the absence of a #Quote feature. Instead of quoting, we #reply. The #conversation stays with the original poster. We talk *to* the author, not *about* them.

People demanding Quotes say that here they won't lead to the #QT #harrassment that was common on Twitter.

Well, look around you. It has started. Large accounts QTing small accounts, ridiculing them. Scorpions sting, that's what they do.

Keep QTs out.

When posting a #reply, it is good practice to set #visibility to "#Unlisted". Mastodon's standard #search will ignore my unlisted reply and its hashtags.

If I want to make my reply available to my Followers, I boost it. Will the boosted reply be searchable?

@eolai - So beautiful! What an absolutely lovely bucolic scene. I love the colorful exterior of those buildings and for a split second, thought this might be a picture from Newfoundland, Canada. St. John's is famous-ish for it's "Jellybean Row" of colorful buildings and, for the faintest of seconds, this put me in mind of there. Anyway, this is lovely - thank you for sharing!

Lovely copy of "Ich und Du" by #Buber. The book can help us understand why #conversation on Mastodon is so liberating.

On twitter, we were made to post for attention. We talk about things and about others, we rate each other, we make each other and ourselves an "It".

On Mastodon, the primary mode of posting is the #reply. We engage with one specific individual, an "I" speaking to a "#Thou". We don't #quote others, with our own judgement attached, instead we talk to the other.

Why doesn't #Mastodon 🐘 show #Reply/#Boost/#Favourite counts? 🤷🏽‍♂️

The #quote #posts work fine on Mastodon, it just doesn't look the same as the other sites.

There are two options that I can see:

1. Copy & Paste the #link, of the post to be quoted, into a new post.

OR

2. #reply inline and then #boost your own response.

The #notifications function doesn't seem to work very well here. I had only one notification of a #reply in recent days but happening to look down my toots (on the website) I suddenly spotted others. I hate being rude and at least one was a reply to a question I'd asked and was keen to know the answer to.
