'To address these challenges and foster a more coherent approach to research integrity and misconduct in Europe, the EMBO Policy Programme explored the establishment of a permanent pan-European body for research integrity.'

The project has put out a report. Read Sandra Bendiscioli's blog post about it at FEBS

"Hindawi — and its parent company, Wiley — have recently announced that they will retract hundreds of papers from journals targeted by paper mills. The papers were all published in ‘special issues’, with the guest editors being either asleep at the wheel or perhaps knowingly looking the other way."

The scientific community must urgently unite to demand actions against high 'proof' barriers enabling research fraud. Advocating for stringent oversight isn't about persecution, but protecting science's integrity. Francesca Gino's case is a stark reminder. For context: theatlantic.com/science/archiv

Stanford's president recently resigned.

An investigation into 12 of his papers concluded that: "Dr. Tessier-Lavigne did not have actual knowledge of the manipulation of research data that occurred in his lab and was not reckless in failing to identify such manipulation prior to publication"

But he "failed to decisively and forthrightly correct mistakes in the scientific record"

Concordat principles are Honesty, rigour, transparency and open comunity, care and respect and accountability. Adhering to all of these should lead to and reduce misconduct. Based on Retraction Watch for UK - not sure it's working as robustly as we want retractionwatch.com/category/b

I would say this is bad because it is only applied to foreign entities. Unless the datasets are large, this should be standard for all awards.

The PI, regardless of whether the sub-contract is domestic or international, should have access to all documentation and data associated with the award.

This should be a trivial activity if digital notebooks are used--again large datasets may be a problem.

@deevybee Web of Science recently delisted 50 journals, removing their impact factors. But “Clarivate initially did not name any of the delisted journals or provide specific reasons.” Why wouldn’t they identify them?!

"Our coding results suggest that most reviewers failed to reject the later-retracted papers. Out of the 260 reviews associated with 160 retracted papers, 128 (49.2%) were perceived to recommend “Acceptance” (55) or “Minor revision” (73) for the manuscripts."

I never knew about this US 'market' where high school students are coached by researchers (who seem to get paid well) to write research papers, which are then hosted as preprints or published in student research journals (for a fee, of course). All to help those prileged enough to afford this to get into university.
